Summer is just around the corner, meaning more time outdoors in the comfort and privacy of your South Beach condo balcony or lounging by the beachside enjoying the rays of the sultry South Florida sunshine. Summertime also means vacation time for the young ones which means it’s time to send them off to summer camp, letting them expend their boundless energy at the pool or play sports, or perhaps preparing a list of family friendly activities everyone can enjoy. Here’s a sampling of events.

Making its initial entry at the Miami Science Museum, the Dinosaurs of China exhibit, taking place until the beginning of June presents an absorbing display of fossils found throughout the country and should prove exciting for the budding paleontologist.

Children and adults alike who’ve always been intrigued by reptiles will want to visit Miami Metrozoo to check out its “Reptiles: The Beautiful and the Deadly” exhibit which displays several creatures both large and small that inhabit various parts of the world. The exhibit also includes several interactive features which should further delight younger children.

The Bahamas, located less than an hour from Florida comes to brilliant life in Miami at the annual Goombay Festival, set to take place on June 7. This is a great activity for adults and children to experience the celebratory Bahamian culture and sample several of their ethnic dishes while meeting all the diversity of cultures that show up to this one day only event. Children can enjoy some of the festival’s arts and crafts as part of the activities available.

If you’re already living in a Miami Beach home, the abundance of activities and the welcoming beachfront itself often removes any need to venture too far but the summertime brings a host of activities and events that should be more than reason enough to explore what’s going on throughout the city.
